2016-2017 is my 25th year teaching in Howard County Public Schools. I taught at Mount Hebron High School for 24 years. I student taught there also. This is my first year teaching at The Applications and Research Lab, a career academy in HCPSS. I am the Biotechnology Lab Instructor. I love the lab!
Science has always been in my blood.
Just ask my Dad who was always building something like a radio, TV or telescope. My mom is a nurse. They both took me to see every science museum and zoo growing up. Growing up on the Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other in Virginia Beach, didn't hurt either.
My B.S. in Biology is from Virginia Tech....go HOKIES! My first "real" job was at USUHS ( a medical school for military doctors in Bethesda MD) where I was a research assistant studying the function of herpes viruses. I moved over to UMD to study DNA in Little Brown Bats in the Department of Zoology.
While at UMD, I earned another B.S. in education....Biology. I wanted to put the two things I loved doing together....science and working with young adults. After getting hired by Howard County and MTH, I also earned a M.S. in Molecular Biology and Developmental Biology at UMD. So, as you can see, I was destined for Science!
Over the years at Mount Hebron, I have taught Biology Regular, Honors, GT and AP, Ecological Biology, Introduction to Chemistry and Physics, Marine Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and HSA Mastery.
I have been married for 25 years and have two sons. My older son is a Senior at Salisbury University majoring in Music. He is a gifted musician! Neal, is a Senior at Mt. Hebron. He loves parkpour, freerunning, art and indoor and outdoor track.....and MUSIC! We have a dog, Lena....who is the smartest thing ever!
