ENGAGEMENT
Multiple Means of Engagement 1. Provide Options for Recuiting interest 2. Provide Options for sustaining efforts and persistence. 3. Provide Options for self-regulation. On-line Natural Selection game. This game is interactive and "grabs" the students attention. The student has to solve a problem in the given situation. (select above icon in Glog) Use of technology. This lesson incorporates the use of computers to utilize many tools. Students interact with a Glog created at Glogster. In the glog, students have audio to accompany text and to explain the activity, are linked to a Google spreadsheet to enter data, a Google survey doc to enter responses to analysis questions (select the "Thinking Cap" icon on bottom right of glog), linked to a web graphing site to visually graph data to see patterns, and the students have a link to a Google doc that summarizes what is to be completed(select the graph paper icon on bottom left of glog) Physical manipulation of pieces for the activity. students follow the textual and audio directions to manipulate the toothpicks that represent the alleles for the fish. *Previous knowledge: Link to a video on Charles Darwin (select the Darwin picture in the glog) All of these activities and the interaction the students have with the glog ( visual and auditory) as well as the hands-on part of the activity with the toothpicks, allows for multiple means of engagement. |
